Fourth-Inning Burst Enough To Lead Stamford Past New Haven Grays – July 6, 2025

Stamford defeated Grays 1 19-2 on Sunday thanks in part to 11 runs in the fourth inning.

Grays 1 opened the scoring in the first after Israel Galarza grounded out, scoring one run.

Stamford flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring six runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Christian Noto on an 0-2 count that drove in two.

A ground out by Matt Coppola extended the Stamford lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

A balk extended the Stamford lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third inning.

Stamford scored 11 runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Michael Zinicola singled, scoring two runs, Riley Patton induced Noto to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored, Owen Hodson singled, scoring two runs, Max McCabe drew a walk, scoring one run, Paul Nanos drew a walk, scoring one run, and Coppola singled, scoring three runs.

Christian Liberti earned the win for Stamford. The hurler allowed zero hits and one run (zero earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Marlon Soto took the loss for Grays 1. The righty went three innings, surrendering 13 runs (11 earned) on eight hits, striking out three and walking five. #11 earned the save.

Alex Coca and Carmelo Ramos were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for Grays 1. Coca stole two bases.

Stamford tallied 10 hits in the game. Coppola provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Stamford with five runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Darren King, Zinicola, and Coppola each collected two hits for Stamford. Stamford had patience at the plate, piling up eight walks for the game. Nanos and Hodson led the team with two bases on balls each. Nanos and King each stole multiple bases for Stamford. Stamford ran wild on the base paths, collecting seven stolen bases for the game.
